The ACCA announce changes to the members’ rule book to cover the new money laundering regulations. Following the crackdown on terrorism, the UK Money Laundering laws have been tightened up, and accountants now have to follow stringent rules. This is to ensure that they are not unwittingly used by clients to launder the proceeds of crime, including tax evasion. Peter Brown & Co have procedures in place that comply with the new regulations. We will try to ensure that the increase in bureaucracy does not lead to an increase in fees.

Peter Brown, Managing Director of Peter Brown & Co, intervenes at the AGM of Bootham Crescent Holdings plc, the company that until recently owned York City Football Club, and is still the landlord of YCFC. Peter Brown raised questions at the meeting relating to whether the accounts fully complied with all the provisions of the Companies Act 1985 and applicable Accounting Standards. In the light of the questions raised, the Chairman adjourned the meeting and it was later reported that the auditors had withdrawn their audit report on the accounts. A full report can be found in the Yorkshire Evening Press for 17th December 2002 and on the York City FC website
